Mr. Paston-Bedingfeld addressed the Society on the eve of the State Opening of Parliament, being on his way down to London to take part. During his talk he displayed the uniform which he wears as Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms. The main part of the talk was beautifully illustrated by slides showing records of grants of arms and other documents in the archives of the College of Arms. One of these documents showed the arms of an ancestor of Mr. Paston-Bedingfeld's – together with the thumb of this man's descendant holding the book open. Bringing us right up to date with his work as a herald, Mr. Paston-Bedingfeld told us that he was now engaged in thinking of a coat-of-arms for the London Fire Brigade to use when it becomes separate from the GLC. At the end of the meeting, he invited suggestions as to what this coat-of-arms should include. Charmian Leaver |
